LinkCAD Release 5 is a robust and powerful translating utilitiy that will transfer file formats from GDS-II, DXF, CIF, Gerber RS274X, PostScript, or IE3D into any other file format. This means LinkCAD will meet all your file transfer needs. GDS-II, CIF and DXF files can be output to a IE3D file format or the reverse. Or Import/Export GDS-II to DXF. For PhotoPlots and high quality Prints/Masks, | Gerber RS274X and PostScript Output are available. In LinkCAD, simple operation is the key to this software that is not used every day, but still has the ability to perform complex operations. Just select the import and export format, click on 'Next' and you are guided through the conversion process. |
Easy selection of file formats and unique setup of the format are available. Circles in DXF need to be converted to closed polygons for CIF and GDS-II files. Selection of the number of segments to make up a circle is available. This is important for modlers where a reduced number of segments will keep simulation time to a minimum. Or the reverse is required for manufacturing, where a high number of segments are needed. | ![]() File Structure Window |
Unique
IntelliSync technology automatically checks
and repairs damaged GDS-II files. Repair problem DXF files. Click a box and LinkCAD will fix DXF broken polylines or open polylines. Easy Flatten command will remove hierarchy from files for use in hierarchy sensitive applications. |
Manage Vertices Count GDS-II
file format supports a maximum of 200 vertices/polygon. LinkCAD will scan the
number of vertices in each polygon. If it exceeds the 200 vertex limit, LinkCAD
will break the polygon into the required number of polygons to meet the 200
vertex criteria. This is important for DXF to GDS-II conversions where AutoCAD
polygons do not have any limits. Turn off layers by clicking on the "light bulb". |
Now you can view the imported file before/after modifications and before you export. This may save a lot of time and costs because you can see the results before you click that Export button.
|
![]() View the file before you export. A broken file has been identified with a broken line and triangles at end of segments. |
Below is an example of how geometries can be repaired and LinkCAD VIEW will show the results before the file is exported.
![]() Repair window defines 2 open polygons |
![]() The results show the rectangle repaired and is filled. |
Now GDS-II binary files are no longer a road block to getting your design changed and into production. An important interface and editing feature is now available for GDS-II binary files. Now you can convert GDS-II files into easy-to-read and edit ASCII files. This means redundant editing changes can be done with just a few key strokes. Interface to other CAD and manufacturing process can be done with easy-to-edit text files. Import the GDS-II file into LinkCAD, export a Text file and then use your favorite text editor to search and replace redundant changes. Change a cell or change a dimension. Then Import the Text file into LinkCAD and Export a GDS-II file. This simple and short process can take hours to perform in a CAD system. |

The Merge option will merge overlapping polygons into one geometry. This is great for mechanical and electrical simulators and other software that will not accept overlapping polygons such as the IE3D em simulator. The algorithm speed is extremely fast. Merge over 40,000 overlaps in less than one minute. Merge will operate on geometries on the same layer or perform boolean functions on geometries on different layers. Geometries on Different
Layers This design shows a plane on one layer and pads on another layer. Using the Layer Operations, Boolean functions can be performed on the geometries of the two layers. |
Seen below, pads on one layer are subtracted from the plane on a second layer. Operations of Merge (OR), Intersect (AND), Subtract (as this example) and XOR are available. These operations are useful as a complement to the CAD system. |
Blue pads can be used to 'punch holes' in magenta plane. |
After the boolean function (AND) 'Subtract', the plane has resultant holes. |
Subtract (XOR) Overlapping Polygons
![]() Original geometries consist of one large plane and two smaller geometries that are on the same layer. |
![]() XOR command creates holes in the plane that are the shape of the smaller geometries. The XOR command will perform the operation on any layer that is turned on. If more than one layer is in the database, layers can be turned off before the command is executed. |

ON LINE HELP
Need help to understanding a command and are tired of reaching for the manual? With just a key stroke, help files are available for all commands. | The entire manual is available from menus. Even a glossary of terms are available, plus how to get technical support. Detailed graphic tutorials show how to import and export files. |
